“Its organizers and the authorities who allow it, care neither
for the feelings of families nor the holiness of this city,” said Latin
Patriarch Faud Twal.
Jerusalem’s eighth annual Gay
Pride Parade took place Thursday, July 29th and attracted 3,000 marchers to the
Holy city.

In the patriarch’s
statement, he implied that the event should have taken place elsewhere in
recognition of the city’s religious character.
Twal added that the LGBT
community can “have their parade wherever they want,” so long as it is not
Jerusalem.
The parade was also met
with opposition from ultra-Orthodox Jews, including from Jerusalem’s deputy-mayor.
