churches call not to legalize same-sex marriages

The All-Ukrainian Union of Churches and Religious
Organizations has sent letters to the country's officials and Ukraine's
permanent delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
(PACE) with a call not to support legalization same-sex marriages.
The PACE is planning to consider the question
about discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity at
its session on January 27.
In these letters, Bishop of the Rome-Catholic
Church in Ukraine Markiyan Trofymyak, the head of the All-Ukrainian Union of
Churches and Religious Organizations, is asking "to take into account a
stance of the Ukrainian public, including that of the Churches and religious
organizations, which strongly denies Ukraine's international level support to
and introduction of any initiatives in our state intended to promote
homosexuality and attempts to legalize same-sex relations'
